Moto Morini ZZ 49cc, 1972, Italian Classic

Founded by Alfonso Morini, who was born in Bologna, Italy, Moto Morini's first motorcycle appeared in 1945 in the form of a two-stroke 125cc single-cylinder. Proving successful on the track almost immediately, Morini switched to four-stroke production and, from 1953, moved to an overhead camshaft design on their 175cc bike but it wasn't until 1958 that a serious Grand Prix machine appeared, with the successful twin-cam 250cc. Morini built a wide range of road-going models in the 1960s and into the 1970s, including the diminutive little 50cc scooter offered here with its characteristic twist grip three-speed gearchange. Built alongside the 125 Corsaro (“Pirate) was the diminutive Corsarino (“Little Pirate”), with numerous versions sold including the Z, more sporting ZT, Super Sport ZZ and off-road Scrambler. The Corsarino was introduced in 1963 with an ohc engine designed by Alphonso and was gradually improved, with a foot-operated four-speed gearbox introduced in 1966, remaining on the market until 1975. Although the stylish Moto Morini may have had only 50cc, it looked for all the world like a serious motorcycle and they proved very popular in Italy during the 1960s and have a cult following around the world today. These charming little motorcycles are real collectors item and perfect for club days or as display pieces.Moto Morini ZZ, 49cc, 4t, first registered 1972.
