1977 YAMAHA XS 650 Roadster

1977 YAMAHA XS 650CLASSIC PARALLEL TWIN'ROADSTER'NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LESS DESIRABLE CUSTOM VERSIONS CARDS TAKEN. ADD TWO PERCENT Sought after 650cc vertical twin which was Japan's take on the British twins of the early 1970's. From the outset, these engines not only looked right but proved so tough and durable that they were used for grass track racing, custom specials and were strong enough to accept big bore kits. Handling of early models was frightening. I know because I 'enjoyed' a beautiful 1972 XS2 in orange which had frame tubes and fork legs made of pasta. As I recall, Percy Tait of Triumph racing fame was later engaged to assist sort the handling, hence later models such as this were significantly safer. It is ironic that this model was a nod to the British 'Classic' twin yet it now enjoys its own following as a collectible machine. More to the point, it remains a very practical bike which is a joy to work on. Simple and solid but also stylish. We bought this US bike from an enthusiast who enjoyed too many XS650s.The engine was running superbly, so no mechanical work had to be done, just simple bolt on bits as follows: *NEW Yuasa battery*NEW drive chain*NEW fork legs(Old ones were pitted)*NEW Fork seals*NEW Fork dust seals *NEW front brake pads *Braided front brake hose (NOT ILLUSTRATED)*The alternator rotor is presently with WEST COUNTRY WINDINGS being rewound as there was no charge to the battery*NEW front tyre (The machine will bere submitted for its MOT o...
