1953 JAMES CADET 125cc only 8000 miles from new

1953 James Cadet 123cc J5 only 8895 miles from new This is my 1953 James Cadet, the first of my small collection of James motorcycles that I will be selling - and the best! Unfortunately I have spent too much money on my other hobby this year - hillclimbing and sprinting a car - and look set to spend even more next year when my daughter joins me competing again - so something has to go. It was bought new on the 19th June 1953 from "Vaughan Motor Works" of Sidcup, Kent. The original owner kept all documentation - the original receipt upon purchase, handbook, tyre advice leaflet, price list, original advertising pamphlet and accessories leaflet. The buff logbook has been retained with the bike, and shows change of address by the original owner (twice) - the buff logbook has been cancelled. He used the bike until 1964, when he apparently bought another bike a small Suzuki but kept the James. He used it again in 1970-72 but then put it away again until last used in 1980. I bought it from his son, who transferred it into his own name in 1989. It had been unused for nearly ten years by then, but had always been garaged in the dry. His son kept it but made no attempt to start it or use it and sold it as a non runner in August 2013 when I was lucky enough to buy it. Thye condition is amazing for the year. The throttle cable was broken, and the carb needle bent, so Dad had probably had a go at fixing it at some time. The tank was full of gelatinous crud. I chemically cleaned the tank,...
