BSA B40 WD

Picture 3 shows the state of the bike when I bought it. Believe it or not it haonly been un-MOT'd fopr about a year It had been 'converted' to a trial bike of sorts. A lot of the original bike had gone, it had a high level exhaust, the valve lifter, oil filter, air box, orginal carb, chain gaurd and mudgaurds were missing. BUT I cleaned out the tank, changed the oil and it fired second kick. What has been done: In a word everything. I took my test on one of these in 1975 at the JLR RAC in Bovingdon, Dorset then used one on military police duties in Sennelager, Germany for two years on and off and I had a desire to get one back to the 'as delivered' look. In operational use these bikes were never kept gloss green but hand-painted in matt green most of the time, especially when it was near the annual PRE check. Those of you who rode these in the Army will know what I mean!! Every bit of metal has been blasted and sprayed. Matching numbers NEW: Exhaust (in chrome as originals are like rocking horse teeth Handlebars All cables Tyres, Tubes and rim rubbers Front and Rear mudguards Rear lights Pannier Bags Grips, levers NOS Chain Cover NOS Air Box Refitted original carb Refitted oil filter Valve lifter refitted The biggest issue was the tank. The only thing keeping fuel in it when I bought it was the paint. When I had it blasted it was riddled with little holes all over. I sent it away to a specialist in hartlepool who split it. replated it on the inside, brazed it back together an...
