Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat
R reg, 1998. 56k miles. Colour scheme: orange, black, silver. Features: - DataTool S4C1 Red alarm system; - Micron exhaust system; - custom handlebars; - bar end mirrors for better visibility, as original mirrors show nothing past your elbows (I have them if you want them though); - small indicators; - pillion seat cover; - double bubble wind screen; - crash pads. Recently done: - carburetors stripped and cleaned; - new carb rubbers; - new choke cable; - front brakes stripped and cleaned; - new clutch plates and cable; - wide nut on front sprocket (stock one comes loose on Thundercats and Fazers); - cigarette lighter socket fitted, ready for SatNav use. Mechanically sound, 2nd gear working fine (Achilles' heel in this model), engine starts every time regardless of temperature. Bodywork not perfect, some scratches and cracks present. Recently dropped the bike at low speed while riding in snow, little mark on exhaust can. Rear tire has lots of tread left, front tire will need replaced at some point this season. Comfortable bike for sports touring, wide seat, well positioned handlebars and foot pegs. I rode it for over 200 miles the day I bought it, without so much as aching wrists, and I'm 6'2". Handles well, very stable at speed due to relatively heavy build, though still quicker from 0-90mph than an R6, due to decent amount of torque, according to the MCN review. Fuel consumption is also pretty decent, I regularly hit 60mpg. Simply put: if you want a comfy commuter or tourer ...
